Fishing Trawler was released on28 July 2003, making it one of the oldest minigames still active in the game. It requires no quest to access and can be played at any Fishing level, though level 15 Fishing is the minimum needed to receive fish rewards at the end of each trip.

Two Ardougne Diary tasks are tied directly to this minigame. Starting any expedition completes the Easy tier task. Catching a raw manta ray at level 81 Fishing and then cooking it in Port Khazard at level 91 Cooking completes the Elite tier task, which rewards players with 50% more fish per trip.

The main draw is the Angler outfit. Each piece gives a stacking Fishing XP bonus and the full set is widely considered the fastest obtainable skilling outfit for Fishing in the game. The alternative method, Aerial Fishing, is more click-intensive and generally slower for most players. 

How to Get to Fishing Trawler OSRS the Fast Way

For most accounts the Minigame Teleport via the Group Finder interface is the best option because it deposits you directly at the dock with zero walking. Players without 15 Fishing yet should use a Fairy Ring if available or the Ardougne Cloak for a short run.

Graceful is not required to patch leaks or chop the Kraken but it keeps run energy up for the full trip. Budget players can use any weight-reducing gear they own.

High Alchemy is banned inside the minigame so it cannot be used to pass time. Fletching is the most popular choice because it requires no extra attention and the supplies stack. Rope is consumed on use so always bank between trips when running solo. 

How Fishing Trawler OSRS Actually Works Onboard

Board the large ship directly north of Murphy and wait for it to set sail. If a voyage is already underway when you arrive, wait on the ship for up to six minutes before the next one begins. Murphy announces the remaining time regularly throughout the trip.

50 contribution points is all you need. Hit it early and spend the rest of the trip Fletching.

Three main tasks earn contribution points during the voyage. Patching hull leaks with swamp paste earns 5 points per patch and also gives 5 Construction XP. Repairing the torn fishing net with rope earns 7 points per repair and gives 5 Crafting XP. Bailing rising water with a bucket earns 2 points with no skill XP attached.

The camera sways during the entire trip to simulate being at sea. This causes disorientation for some players and can be permanently disabled by clicking the camera button in the top-right corner of the screen before or during the voyage. Pets and followers, including cats, are banned inside the minigame. 

Solo vs Mass World Strategy Compared Side by Side

Both methods reach the same reward pool but the experience is completely different. Mass worlds mean other players share the repair workload, making trips relaxed and consistent. Solo trips mean every leak, net tear, and Kraken tentacle is your responsibility alone.

For players purely chasing the Angler outfit the mass worlds at 315 and 370 are the correct choice. The slightly shorter trip time and zero supply pressure makes the grind far more sustainable. Solo is better only if you want the additional Fishing XP and do not mind banking between every single trip. 

How to Get Off Fishing Trawler OSRS the Right Way

Players are automatically returned to the Port Khazard dock when the five-minute trip ends. There is no exit action or button to press. You are simply teleported back to the pier and Murphy distributes any fish rewards to players who met the 50-point contribution threshold.

Never die on the Fishing Trawler. The death recovery mechanic here is one of the most punishing in the game.

Dying inside the minigame creates a grave at the exact water level where you died. To recover your items you must board the trawler again and allow the boat to flood to that same water level by deliberately letting the ship fill up. This is extremely difficult to coordinate and can result in permanent item loss. Protect your gear at all times inside the minigame.

If you board mid-voyage you will wait up to six minutes on the ship before the next trip begins. This waiting time does not count as a trip and earns no contribution points. Disable camera sway as soon as you board so the motion does not disorient you during the wait.

Angler Outfit Odds and Whether It Is Worth It

The Angler outfit has four pieces including the hat, top, waders, and boots. Each piece has a 1 in 12 chance of dropping per trip regardless of how many pieces you already own. The drop is not guaranteed to be a piece you are missing.

The 2.5% bonus stacks on top of any XP boosting outfit you wear and applies permanently from the moment you equip the full set. Over a full 1-99 grind using methods like Barbarian Fishing the outfit saves you approximately six hours of training time at high levels.

The Spirit Angler upgrade is available by exchanging each Angler piece plus 1,200 spirit flakes at Gita Prymes in the Ruins of Unkah. The upgrade costs 4,800 spirit flakes total for all four pieces and changes the cosmetic appearance of the outfit without altering the XP bonus.
